Live Theatre: 50 years of New Writing Ishy Din and Jack McNamara in conversation with Tamsin Rees

Celebrate Live Theatre's 50th anniversary!  Join Artistic Director and CEO, Jack McNamara, multi-discipline dramatist Ishy Din and Newcastle-based playwright Tamsin Rees who will be discussing how to get from blank page to award-winning stage and screenplays, Ishy Din's career from Middlesbrough taxi driver to celebrated writer, and Live Theatre's 50-year record of supporting the freshest new voices across the UK. Find out how to get a break, what comes next, and what plans Live's newest Artistic Director Jack McNamara has in store...

Ishy Din is an award-winning multi-discipline dramatist who has worked with all the major broadcasters including the BBC, CH4 and Netflix. He has a number of feature projects in development and his short film work has exhibited at numerous International Film Festivals. Ishy is currently working on commissions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. Raised in Middlesbrough, he is a Trustee of Live Theatre.

Jack McNamara is the Artistic Director/Joint CEO of Live Theatre. He has staged world premieres by major international artists from Lars Von Trier to Chigozie Obioma and regional premieres by writers ranging from debbie tucker green to Athol Fugard. His recent production of The Fishermen won a Stage Award and a Black British Theatre Award for Best Actor, following sold out runs at Home Manchester, The British Council Showcase in Edinburgh and The West End.  He recently redirected it for BBC Radio 3. 

Tamsin Rees is a playwright based in Newcastle and is currently completing a PhD in Creative Writing at Newcastle University. They are an Associate Artist with Live Theatre, and an Artist with Company for Curious Arts 2023
