Overview

We offer you access to a wide range of mass spectrometry (MS) equipment and consultancy services for research.

Our facility allows researchers to characterise, identify and quantify small molecules by their:

  • molecular mass
  • fragmentation patterns

Dedicated technical team

A dedicated technical team, with vast experience across MS analyses, manage the facility. They can advise researchers in the most appropriate MS techniques for molecular:

  • detection
  • quantification
  • characterisation

They have experience across chemical, biological and environmental samples.

Bringing together instrumentation and expertise

We created SAgE Mass Spectrometry Facility in 2018. It brings together instrumentation and expertise from across the Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering (SAgE).

It establishes a single mass spectrometry resource to support:

  • research
  • teaching
  • industrial collaboration

Our Services & Rates

You will find our mass spectrometry (MS) facility and expert staff cater for your research needs at competitive rates.

Techniques

We can provide access to a wide range of MS equipment, offering different techniques for:

  • separation (UPLC, GC)
  • ionisation (ESI, REIMS/iKnife, APCI, APPI, EI, CI)
  • mass analysis (QToF, ToF, Single-Quad, Triple-Quad, Ion Trap)

The MS facility can provide analysis of small organic molecules with masses from 50 to 4,000 Daltons. Typical analytes can be isolated molecules or mixtures, including:

  • environmental samples (organic matter, pesticides, herbicides and pollutants)
  • biological samples (small metabolites, lipids, natural products)
  • chemical samples (small organic and inorganic molecules, drugs and drug precursors, chemical reaction analysis)

We offer a consultancy service. We are able to give advice about:

  • sample preparation
  • experimental design
  • interpretation and processing of data

Rates

The MS facility provides services to other departments within the University and commercial customers in industry (we do not offer GLP services).
