Sea Change NE

Sea Change NE

Sea Change NE was a year-long public engagement project which captured what happened along the North East coast over the course of a year.

We invited all members of the public to take a photograph, write a poem or draw a picture that summed up what their coastline meant to them. The images have been collated and presented in a book to treasure.

What we did

We worked closely with 12 schools from across the region, each one taking ownership of a particular month. Their work introduces each chapter. The resulting book is entitled 'A Year in the Life of our North East Coast'.

The team has been overwhelmed by the response from the public and the support that they have received from local shops, businesses and the media.

The books are being sold across the world, retailing in an increasing number of local venues and have proved popular as prizes and gifts across the University.

You can visit the Sea Change NE flickr account to see photos of the project. We would like to thank Durham Heritage Coast for financial support for this project.

Buy the book

The book can be bought throughout the region at the following locations:

  • Waterstones branches in Newcastle, Hexham and Silverlink
  • Blackwells, Newcastle's
  • Newcastle University's Student Shop
  • Tourist Information Centre, Morpeth

Any profits from the sale of the book will go to support projects promoting young people’s engagement with the natural environment.
