Project description

I am a KTP Associate with Coastal Grains Ltd and Newcastle University, focusing on identifying novel arable crops for commercial production on farms in North East England and the Scottish Borders.

The primary aims of the project include:

  • Mapping predicted demand patterns and quality specifications for alternative arable crops;
  • Facilitating farmer trials in conventional and organic production system backgrounds;
  • Disseminating market review and economic analyses for novel crops with Coastal Grains members.

Recent research includes a PhD at Newcastle University studying the agronomic and quality performance of spelt and rye varieties with alternative fertilisers on organic and conventionally managed farms. This work received funding through the DEFRA Sustainable Intensification Platform and EU HealthyMinorCereals project.
