Assessment of collection of organisms on intertidal rocky reefs and mudflats for personal and/or commercial use within regional European Marine Sites: Berwickshire and North Northumberland Coast, Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast and Flamborough Head.

There has been little or no recent assessment of the level of the collection of organisms across the various EMS sites in the Northern North Sea region. However, anecdotally the amount of biomass removed over the whole area of various EMSs is significant. This work will provide a broad, timely assessment of impact of collection of organisms activities in EMS sites and potential coastal MCZs in the Northern North Sea area, and to investigate the importance of zoned areas (e.g. no organism collection/managed organism collection) in achieving sustainability in areas outwith protected sites. This work aims to inform the development of management plans and bylaws regarding the collection of organisms in the Berwickshire and North Northumberland Coast (BNNC), Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast (TCC) and in the Humber Estuary European Marine site (EMS).
