A catalyst for automated capture and analysis of behaviour and performance change in pigs for early detection of Health and Welfare problems

This project seeks to develop an early warning system for detecting health and welfare problems in grower/finisher pigs.

An engineering solution based on video and environmental sensors will automatically capture and analyse behaviour and performance changes in pigs. Health/welfare problems manifest as subtle changes in affected pigs, before clinical signs are observed, thereby affecting growth trajectories & activity, including reductions in feeding/drinking behaviour.

This is a first-of-a-kind development of an automated and scalable approach to early detection of health/welfare problems in pigs, which is vital for rapid intervention and early treatment.
