Dr Charlie McMonagle

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr Charlie McMonagle completed his PhD with Dr Stephen Moggach (UWA, Aus) working on a collaborative project between the University of Edinburgh and Diamond Light Source synchrotron to design and develop new high-pressure methods to allow molecular and functional materials to be investigated within a pressure and temperature range currently unavailable.

Charlie is now working in the Laboratory of Dr Mike Probert to design and develop new high-pressure and ultra-low temperature methods for single crystal X-ray diffraction (scXRD). The X-ray diffraction equipment at Newcastle University allows routine access to temperatures as low as 2 K for scXRD and in combination with high-pressure techniques to allow the structural investigation of novel materials over a wide range of thermodynamic space.
