Why did you choose Newcastle?

I chose Newcastle because the idea of a city centre campus and compact city that is very easy to get around. On top of this, the course provided here was the most appealing to me and, of course, it is one of the best cities for nightlife.

What do you like most about your course?

I like the way that the course incorporates a wide range of topics within biology, meaning it is not too specialised. Also, everyone does the same course in the first year, before becoming more focussed in second and third. This allows a lot of flexibility if you decide to change courses after the first year.

If you had to recommend Newcastle or your course to a student trying to choose a university what would you say to them?

I would recommend Newcastle for its welcoming feel and exciting nightlife. I have also found my course and lecturers to be incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.

How would you describe Newcastle?

Newcastle is a fun place to live and is compact enough to easily walk around. It is very close to both the coast and the Northumberland countryside, so whatever you want from a city, you can probably find it here.

What do you think about the clubs and societies that you can join? If you have been a member of one, what sort of activities has it involved?

The clubs and societies have been a big part of my time at uni. I got involved with the parachute club and this allows me to take part in a sport that I previously would not have even thought about doing.

Where do you live? Was it easy to find somewhere?

I lived in Jesmond, which is an incredibly popular student area with a large number of properties available. Because of this I found it easy to find a suitable house, even though I didn't start looking until after Christmas.

What are your future plans?

I'm hoping to become an airline pilot after uni. Although this isn't particularly related to my degree, I feel that the experiences university has given me as a whole will have a good impact on me achieving this.

Do you have any tips about budgeting or student finance?

I found the student finance procedure to be very straight forward. As far as budgeting goes, just be aware of how much you are spending regularly, and Tesco value food isn't really that bad.
