Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Heavy Duty Vehicles

The project aimed to develop directions as policy instruments and/or interventions for a long term strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heavy duty vehicles (HDVs) as well as to bring about improvements in operational efficiency. The project was funded by the EU Environment department. The other partners are Faber Maunsell (UK), NEA (Holland), Centro Studi Sui Systemi di Transporto (Italy), and Motor Transport Institute (Poland). The project was implemented in three phases:1. Identification of options for improving fuel efficiency through a survey of freight operations;2. A survey of current policy instruments;3. The development of an options list. These options was validated through contacts, visits and discussions with transport operators of freight and passengers, shippers, manufacturers and other stakeholders.
