Maritime Humanities Hub

Maritime Humanities Hub

This exploratory project will establish a Newcastle University Maritime Humanities Hub.

The School of History, Classics and Archaelogoy are taking the lead on this project. This hub supports the study of human relationships with the world's oceans, seas and water bodies. These are spaces of circulation, exchange and interaction.

The project will build on existing competencies in maritime history and shipbuilding history. We will work with key partners including Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums where an extensive archive is housed. Within that there is specific reference to the history of Newcastle, the Tyne and wider North East.

The scope of this project will extend through cooperation with other fields. This includes areas such as archaelogy, literature, engineering, geography and politics.
