Research support

Research proposal

  • All research conducted by Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed Malaysia) requires the submission of a research proposal to the Research Management Group (RMG).
  • The proposal is carefully reviewed by the RMG Committee and the outcome is communicated in writing to the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • The PI must obtain ethical clearance, which must be approved before the research is initiated.

Financial support for publication

  • The paper must have been accepted for publication in an indexed journal listed in Scopus/Web of Science with quartile (Q1 - Q4) based on Journal Citation Reports (JCR) or Malaysian Citation Index (MyCite).
  • The paper author must be a member of NUMed Malaysia staff.
  • The paper must cite NUMed Malaysia affiliation with the following address: Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia, 1 Jalan Sarjana 1 Kota Ilmu, Educity@Iskandar, 79200 Iskandar Puteri, Johor, Malaysia.

Participation in international and national research-related activities

  • Staff who are involved in international research-related activities are advised to have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), Research Agreement or Letter of Agreement (LoA) as well as an appointment letter as a project member or proof of co-authorship.
  • National-related activities require the same documents, except for the MoU.

Research exhibition

Staff are encouraged to participate in the listed research exhibitions.

Intellectual property

  • Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind and include ideas, information and knowledge.
  • In a university context, the results and outcomes of research can be viewed as intellectual property.

Gifts and donations

  • Gifts and donations in the form of equipment and research materials received from external parties should be reported to the RMG for safety and record purposes.
  • Gifts also include a stipend, travel expenses and facilities (infrastructure and services).

Research grants - internal

NUMed Internal Research Grants

These grants are to be used as a seed fund to enable staff to embark on research with the aim of enhancing and building research skills and competencies. Grants can be applied for in November and May each year and are subject to availability.
