The Programme
The final programme (PDF: 435KB) has now been finalised and we look forward to seeing everyone on the 21st November.

The Venue
The Great North Museum is on campus (PDF: 2.1MB) in the city centre (PDF: 228KB), a five minute walk from Haymarket Metro station. When you arrive at the main entrance staff will direct you to the second floor Exhibition Hall 3 where the symposium is being held. There will also be signs to direct you. There will be some time between the symposium and the evening reception to have a quick bite to eat. There are a number of places in the town centre which are a short walk away from the Great North Museum. Some suggestions are below, alternatively food will be available at the hotel where you are staying.

The evening reception will be held in the Living Planet Gallery which is on the ground floor of the Great North Museum. There will be signs, and staff on hand to direct you to the room. The evening will start at 6:30pm and finish at 9pm, and drinks and canapés will be served. At 7pm there will be a performance by professional musicians of a piece produced from a 2017 research project called MusicEmbryos.

Travel Information‌

Rail
Mainline rail connections to Newcastle upon Tyne arrive at Central Station and Haymarket is two stops away on the Tyne & Wear Metro. The museum is well signposted from Haymarket Metro station.

Plane
The Metro system runs from the airport into Newcastle City Centre. If you are travelling direct from the airport to the venue alight at Haymarket. If you are travelling direct to the hotel alight at Central Station and travel by taxi to the hotel. There are a number of taxis outside Central Station. However if you would like to book a taxi ahead the contact details for the main operators are below.

Taxi
We will arrange taxis for those who need them to/from the hotel. We can book a taxi for any travel requirements either before or during your stay. Metro
The Metro is the easiest and most convenient way to travel around the city. Self-service ticket machines accept cards, coins, and notes.

Hotel
For those of you who asked for accommodation you are all staying at the Holiday Inn Newcastle-Jesmond (https://www.hinewcastle.co.uk/). The hotel is located on Jesmond Road (A1058).The hotel’s closest metro stop is Jesmond which is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is 10-15 minutes’ walk from the Great North Museum (0.6 miles).

Restaurants
There will be a short time between the symposium and the evening reception for a quick bite to eat. The Great North Museum is located close to Northumberland Street, the main high street in the City Centre which has a number of suitable eating places. Some suggestions are below, alternatively there is a bar which serves light snacks at the hotel where you are staying.

Presentations
For those speaking, each presentation should be 25 minutes in length. It will be very helpful if people can stick to the time to help the chairing and running of the sessions.
