About this course
The MSc in Public Health & Health Services Research is for those who are seeking to gain or enhance a high level of health research skills. You will also be suitable if you wish to pursue a career in public health or health services delivery and analysis in the UK and internationally, with:

This MSc combines a range and high standard of health services research methods with the principles of public health science and practice. After successfully completing this course, you will have the skills to be able to proceed with a PhD or start or develop your career in public health and health services or related areas.
The MSc in Public Health & Health Services Research provides a broad-ranging preparation for the Part A examination of the Faculty of Public Health. Our teaching has been mapped against the Faculty’s competencies for public health practitioners to ensure that we continue to provide an excellent academic training.
The Public Health & Health Services Research MSc is based in the Institute of Health & Society in Newcastle University’s medical school, the Faculty of Medical Sciences. The Institute, headed by Prof Allyson Pollock, is one of the UK’s leading public health departments.
The MSc in Public Health & Health Services Research grows out of the Institute’s determination to undertake research and teaching to:

Modules for 2019 entry
MSc
The full MSc combines taught modules up to the value of 120 credits and a dissertation for 60 credits, totalling 180 credits.
Postgraduate Diploma
You must successfully complete 120 credits of taught modules to be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip).
Postgraduate Certificate
The Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) consists of 60 credits of taught modules and provides an introduction to the methods of public health and health services research.

Entry Requirements
Here are the academic and English language requirements you need to study on this course.
A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in a medical, health or social sciences discipline. You can also apply if you have successfully completed the fourth year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course, or equivalent.
If you have a different background you will be considered on an individual basis. If you have non-standard qualifications then you will be invited to an interview.

English Language Requirements
To study this course you need to meet the following English Language requirements:
Direct Entry: IELTS 7.5 overall (with at least 7.0 in writing)
Pre-sessional English Language courses are not accepted as an alternative entry to this course.

You may need an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate. You'll need to get this before you can get your visa or study on this programme. We'll let you know about the ATAS requirement in your offer letter.

The course starts in September. There is no application closing date for this course, but we recommend that you apply by the start of September.
