Teaching Rationale And Relationship

Lectures provide students with necessary information on the design of highways and other transport infrastructure. Reference is made to the background and practice of current design procedures, concentrating principally in the UK, but also with reference to practice and examples in many other countries. Small group teaching (tutorial) assistance is made available to assist with the understanding of numerical techniques and other issues as required.

Assessment Methods

The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The coursework tests students’ ability to calculate solutions to engineering problems. The examination tests theoretical, conceptual and critical understanding and knowledge of underlying issues. It also tests understanding of design formulae and requires relevant numerical calculations to be mastered.

Alignment Calculations - to assess and reinforce the learning of alignment element design - 5 questions, 1-2 pages each question; Short (3 minute) presentation on transport infrastructure, to reinforce common themes in transport infrastructure of varying types.
