To show students the requirement for industry to consider the environment and sustainability as a core business concern and demonstrate how to implement environmental management in practice.
To highlight the key environmental and sustainability drivers of concern within the business community and the benefits to be gained from a proactive approach to environmental improvement. To describe the techniques and methods involved in environmental auditing and management which may be used to monitor and implement environmental improvements within the workplace.
Outline Of Syllabus
Overview of sustainability as a business concern; Environmental controls and legislation, Environmental reporting, Stakeholder dialogue, Environmental Management Systems; ISO14001, BS8555 and EMAS; environmental policies and reporting environmental issues concerning water effluent waste and energy, auditing and environmental reviews; liability and risk.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Lectures impart key knowledge. Visiting lecturers give practical examples of Environmental management. Group exercise allows the students to appreciate how environmental management affects businesses in practice.
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Key knowledge is assessed by formal exam. Case studies demonstrate the students' grasp of key issues and improve their communication and group work skills.
