To familiarise students with the exercise of writing an M Level dissertation.
To demonstrate the requirements dissertation, exploring styles and the literature review.
To show students how to make use of a theoretical framework, and an appropriate methodology.
To show how to apply theory and methods in practice.
To enable students to develop, plan and manage a research strategy.
To help students to practice project management.
Outline Of Syllabus
Session 1: Academic Styles and Literature Review.
Session 2: Theory into Practice.
Session 3: Field Work at Home and Abroad.
Session 4: Completing Project Outline Forms.
Session 4: Topics - sharing of Project Outline plans for dissertation topic in small groups.
Session 5: Topics and testing – for symmetry in topic of question, methods and theory, plus practicality.
Session 6: Planning Your Proposal – project management.
Session 7: Individual Advice and Guidance sessions in small groups.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The seminars provide guidance and a chance to question and share ideas. The seminars are used to build personal capacity develop a dissertation proposal with advice both in groups and from a generalist and specialist tutors. The assessment is a in the form of brief outline and plan for the dissertation proposed by the student followed by a considered proposal. This will test their capacity to organise their dissertation plan.
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners
