SEL8338 : Phonology in Second Language Acquisition

Semesters
Semester 2 Credit Value: 20
ECTS Credits: 10.0

Aims

There is now considerable research on the acquisition of a second phonology, but rather than focus solely on L2 phonology, this module offers a means of navigation both through as well as around the edges of this large body of work.
The module is divided into two relatively discrete sub-modules. One of these considers the acquisition of a second phonology and then further looks at proposed influences on acquisition. The other sub-module looks at the ways in which phonology might explain variation in L2 learners’ production in the domain of morpho-syntax.
