To develop student’s personal skills at undertaking investigative work of an original kind, the ability to produce a high quality research dissertation
To provide the student with experience in research process and methodology by defining and studying a problem related to Urban Energy.
Outline Of Syllabus
To introduce students to the research process and to prepare them for their research project
The form of supervision will be agreed between module leader, student and identified potential supervisor.
Semester 2 and Semester 3
Following on from the production of a research proposal in Semester 1, during Semester 2 and Semester 3, students undertake the main development work for their project and produce their final dissertation. They are also required to produce a Website about their project and demonstrate what they have achieved
The project may be carried out within the School; in UK industry; at partner institutions under the ERASMUS scheme or other international institutions where we have exchange programmes, including Singapore and Australia.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The student and module leader should select a member of staff as a suitable supervisor for the intended project who will help establish the scope and focus of the project.
The student should formally agree with the selected member of academic staff that they will act as their supervisor. The supervisor needs to sign both the initial project specification and literature review & project plan to confirm that they are willing to so.
The supervisor is also responsible for helping the student with all matters relating to the project and is the primary point of contact for all technical and project management issues.
Students are responsible for maintaining regular contact with their selected supervisors and to maintain a written record of their meetings that is subsequently appended to for the final report.
The project must in all cases be submitted by the stated date.
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
As a practical research module, a dissertation will assess the students’ ability to present results of their own practical work, and to draw conclusions from this work.
