Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Lectures provide students with necessary information on the design of highways and other transport infrastructure. Reference is made to the background and practice of current design procedures, concentrating principally in the UK, but also with reference to practice and examples in many other countries. Small group teaching (tutorial) assistance is made available to assist with the understanding of numerical techniques and other issues as required.

Other Assessment
Description | Semester | When Set | Percentage | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|
Prob solv exercises | 2 | M | 50 | Approx. 15 hours preparation required. |
Prof skill assessmnt | 2 | M | 50 | 7 minutes oral presentations (approx. 15 hours preparation required) |
Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Assessment Rationale and Relationship: The coursework tests students’ ability to calculate solutions to engineering problems. The oral presentation is a test of the intended skills outcome "prepare and present short technical presentations".
Assessment Rationale and Relationship to Learning Outcomes: The Learning Outcomes fall into two groups - the ability to calculate confidently with road and rail alignment parameters; and the overall context in which Transport Infrastructure is part of a sustainable society. The Problem Solving Exercises test the first, and the Professional Skills assessment tests the second.
