Aims
To provide an understanding of how Transport policy and systems are applied in practice. To see European perspectives on Transport, and understand how different cultures and governances affect the development, delivery and operation of transport systems.
Delivery of this module will be subject to any restrictions in place due to the Covid 19 situation at the time.
Plan A would to be to run in the normal mode under non covid-19 restrictions in which case this module comprises a residential field trip to cities in the west of Germany. During the trip a series of lectures are delivered by experts from local companies, local authorities and transport operators. Technical visits are arranged in parallel with the lectures.
Plan B would be offered as a result of Covid 19 restrictions at the time and would comprise an online fieldtrip and activities.
Outline Of Syllabus
Lectures on German transport policy and planning at national, regional and local level; research and development of microsimulation and its application to vehicles and pedestrians; transport systems management; environmental impact of transport; and development and operation of public transport systems. Technical visits to public transport operators, transport authorities and other transport systems.
