Airport Meet and Greet

Our Airport Meet and Greet service team provides a warm welcome to new international students arriving at Newcastle Airport.


Please complete the Arrival Information Form with your current travel arrangements if you are travelling to Newcastle during the UK Government restriction period announced on January 4th 2021.


At the start of each Semester we offer a meet and greet service at Newcastle Airport.  

Due to the Government announcement on Jan 4th 2021 regarding the Covid-19 restrictions in the UK we have suspended our meet and greet service for students arriving for the 2020-21 academic year. Students are asked not to travel to Newcastle unless they already have a flight booked that cannot be changed or they would incur additional costs to change the flight date. Students who are travelling to Newcastle during this time are asked to complete the Arrival Information Form with their current travel arrangements. They will then be contacted to discuss how we can assist them to their accommodation. 

If you are travelling to the UK during March or April 2021 we have created a step-by-step guide for travel to the UK. Please read this and follow all of the steps to ensure that your travel and arrival runs smoothly and we are able to support you.

UK Border Control have detailed guidance on how to prepare for the UK border. Please look at these before arrival to make your arrival into the UK as smooth as possible.

You should also familiarise yourself the quarantine requirements that have recently been introduced in the UK. If you are required to self isolate/quarantine upon arrival we have support available for you as part of our quarantine support package.

Everyone entering the UK must complete a passenger locator form in the 48 hour period before they are due to travel to the UK.  Please make sure you complete this form before you travel to avoid delays at border control.

Arriving at a different time

If you have not booked onto the service or you arrive at a time when the service is unavailable, you will have to make your own way to your accommodation. Details of the best way to do this are on our Travelling to Accommodation page.

Once you arrive at Newcastle International Airport, if you are staying in University owned or managed accommodation,we recommend you take a taxi to your accommodation. From the airport call security on +44 191 208 6817 and let them know that you are en route to your accommodation. They will meet you at your accommodation with your key and will let you into the building.

If you are unable to call security from the airport you can use the help point at the main door of your accommodation to call security. The security team member will then bring your key to the accommodation to enable you to gain access. Please note that you may have to wait for security to arrive. Our security team will all be wearing University uniform and will have ID with them.

If you are staying in private accommodation we recommend that you contact your accommodation provider before you travel to find out how to gain access to your accommodation.  We advise you to find out the arrangements for accessing your accommodation outside of normal working hours (i.e. evenings and weekend) so you know what to do in the event that your arrival in Newcastle is delayed.
