Airport Meet and Greet

Our Airport Meet and Greet service team provides a warm welcome to new international students arriving at Newcastle Airport.

 

 

 

At the start of each Semester we offer a meet and greet service at Newcastle Airport.  The Service for September/October has now ended and but we will offering the service again at the start of Semester 2.

Advance booking is required for this service and the booking form will be posted here in December 2020. Once you have submitted a booking we will ensure that someone from the team will be at the airport ready for your flight arriving. They will meet you and escort you to transport that will take you to your accommodation. This may be individually in a taxi or on a coach with other students. This service is free to new international and EU students.

Please note that we are able to provide transport for students only. We have space for a maximum of two pieces of luggage per student. Some airline companies are now charging passengers a significant fee if they place more than one piece of luggage in the hold of the aircraft. There may be a short walk from the drop off location and your accommodation, so please ensure that you can carry/pull all of your luggage without the use of an airport trolley or the assistance of others.

UK Border Control have detailed guidance on how to prepare for the UK border. Please look at these before arrival to make your arrival into the UK as smooth as possible.

You should also familiarise yourself the quarantine requirements that have recently been introduced in the UK. If you are required to self isolate/quarantine upon arrival we have support available for you as part of our quarantine support package.

Everyone entering the UK must complete a passenger locator form in the 48 hour period before they are due to travel to the UK.  Please make sure you complete this form before you travel to avoid delays at border control.

Arriving at a different time

If you have not booked onto the service or you arrive at a time when the service is unavailable, you will have to make your own way to your accommodation. Details of the best way to do this are on our Travelling to Accommodation page.

Once you arrive at Newcastle International Airport, if you are staying in University owned or managed accommodation,we recommend you take a taxi to your accommodation. From the airport call security on +44 191 208 6817 and let them know that you are en route to your accommodation. They will meet you at your accommodation with your key and will let you into the building.

If you are unable to call security from the airport you can use the help point at the main door of your accommodation to call security. The security team member will then bring your key to the accommodation to enable you to gain access. Please note that you may have to wait for security to arrive. Our security team will all be wearing University uniform and will have ID with them.

If you are staying in private accommodation we recommend that you contact your accommodation provider before you travel to find out how to gain access to your accommodation.  We advise you to find out the arrangements for accessing your accommodation outside of normal working hours (i.e. evenings and weekend) so you know what to do in the event that your arrival in Newcastle is delayed.
