Natalie Goulter, PhD., is a Lecturer within the School of Psychology at Newcastle University, as well as an Adjunct Associate Lecturer within the Salivary Bioscience Research Centre at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, and an Adjunct Professor within the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada.
Natalie received her M.Sc. in Comparative Cognition and Neuropsychology at the University of Otago, New Zealand, under the supervision of Professor Michael Colombo, and her Ph.D. in Developmental and Forensic Psychology at UNSW, under the supervision of Professor Eva Kimonis. After her Ph.D., she completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at SFU collaborating with Professor Robert McMahon and Professor Marlene Moretti.
Natalie is a consortium member of the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology, and a member of the Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy. She is also an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science, Research on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology, the International Journal of Behavioral Development, and Neuroanatomy and Behaviour.
Natalie’s program of research is grounded in developmental and biological psychology with direct clinical application. Specifically, her research focuses on the development of externalizing psychopathology and callous-unemotional (CU) traits (i.e., callous lack of empathy, deficient affect, and reduced concern regarding tasks) during childhood and adolescence encompassed in the following four interrelated themes: 1) measurement and modeling; 2) developmental etiology; 3) biological mechanisms; 4) preventive interventions.
In addition to the courses outlined below, I am always happy to hear from students interested in working with me on any of my research areas.
