There are technicians in all walks of life doing a variety of interesting and important work.
Technicians build the aircraft engines that fly people around the world. Technicians undertake lab research to help find a cure for cancer. Technicians design the lighting for the world's biggest entertainment events.
Driving forward the further development and recognition of technical support staff.

What is the Technician Commitment?
Launched by the Science Council in May 2017, the Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative. Led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s 'Technicians Make It Happen' campaign. As of September 2017 61 institutes of higher education have joined the Technician commitment (TC).
Newcastle University is a founder signatory and joined in March 2017 with the approval of Prof. Chris Day (VC).
Prof. David Burn (PVC FMS) is the Chair of the TC Steering group. Members include Technicians, HR, Director of Operations, Equality officer and Academics.
The Commitment encompasses the following key areas:
