In August a group of Fine Art students joined SACS and Newcastle Business School staff on our research project exploring work opportunities for artists in East Africa.

Meela, Abi, Maxi, Katie and LIz joined artists from Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda and SACS staff and research students to work on some amazing new art projects that were commissioned by Newcastle University as part of the KLA ART public art festival in Kampala.

This was a once in a lifetime experience for the students, all of whom have established friendships and connections with artists in Africa and are already planning follow-up visits. The project is a partnership between SACS and Makerere University, 32 Degrees East Ugandan Arts Trust as well grass roots arts organisations in Africa, the British Council and the British Institute in East Africa.

The research is funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

Such a fantastic opportunity...the whole experience was amazing; being able to work with artists with such different experiences, this collaboration is something I will never take for granted. 32° gave us such fantastic contacts. I really did learn so muc
