'YesWeCanNewcastle' opened a film festival curated by the Young Women's Film Academy.

As part of her association with the city-wide consortium 'The Women's 100', a name which celebrates 100 years since the start of women's suffrage, Professor Karen Ross has produced a film as one of several outcomes of the group's activities.

'YesWeCan: Older Women Active Lives' was chosen to open the Festival of Women's Film in the North East, curated by the Young Women's Film Academy on Saturday 10th March because of its upbeat and positive themes in celebration of older women. It serves as a good example of how women's empowerment can unite women from different generations.

Professor Ross commented: 'The film celebrates older women and active life, and challenges the negative stereotypes of older women which dominate popular media.'
