Hear the newly installed Bernard Aubertin organ in King's Hall played by Newcastle University's Prof Magnus Williamson (Professor of Early Music)

Magnus Williamson plays the new Bernard Aubertin organ in King’s Hall, Newcastle University: J. S. Bach’s chorale prelude, Mit Fried und Freud ich fahr dahin from the Orgelbüchlein.

This Lutheran chorale, a paraphrase of the Nunc dimittis (or Song of Simeon), is sung on the feast of the Purification, February 2. The tune is in the soprano, lightly ornamented, above dactylic ostinato.

Registration: Positive (LH/RH): Bourdon 8, Portunal 4. Pedal: Bourdon 16, Bourdon 8.  Special to Aubertin, the Portunal is bright like a Principal, but soft and transparent.
