About the Course

Ground Engineering Practice and Professional Skills

Hands-on experience of a major project and case study.

The course features a seminar series led by industry. This will expose you to a variety of engineering geology and geotechnical case studies.

The course will provide you with experience of taking on a substantial project. Your project will tackle a problem defined through liaison with a client. You'll carry it out within fixed time and resource constraints.

You'll get experience of peer-reviewing reports in a critical and supportive fashion. You'll improve your ability to complete an investigation. You'll build your confidence in reporting your findings and interpretations..

This course is also delivered on at least one of the Faculty's Masters programmes in the School of Engineering, and you will attend alongside full and part time registered students.

Ground Engineering Practice and Professional Skills

Course Objectives

The course will enhance your knowledge and understanding of a relevant engineering or construction related discipline. It will develop and extend your research and problem solving skills.

Course Outline

The course provides exposure to a wide variety of case studies through industry led seminar series lectures. Workshops and design consultancy feedback meetings lead the way in the development of a design solution to a client-led problem.

Academic Module Outline

This course is also delivered as a Module (code CEG8211) on at least one of the Faculty's Masters programmes, the majority of which can be studied part time, making them suitable for those in employment. You will attend with full and part time registered students. The Academic Module Outline is available via the University's Module Catalogue.

During the course, you will be able to access course materials electronically using the University Wifi. We suggest that you bring a laptop or tablet with PDF viewer if you wish to refer to the notes during the course. Please ensure that you make sure your electronic device is fully charged, as access to charging points may be limited within the lecture rooms.
