Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering

Our Faculty includes more than 2,000 postgraduate students from across the world.

Postgraduate Research

More than 1,100 Postgraduate Researchers are the engine room of our research. Students complete individual projects and contribute to research group management, teaching and outreach.

We offer a range of Postgraduate Research degrees, including PhD, EngD and MPhil. Opportunities for Postgraduate Research and Doctoral Training are available in our research section.

Support and development

The University's Research Student Support Team work across both our Faculty and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Postgraduate students are also enrolled in our Faculty Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme.

This provides structured support for learning and development. Our programme starts by mapping current skills against the Researcher Development Framework. The resulting Training Needs Analysis, forms a Personal Development Plan that students and supervisors can use together.

Postgraduate Taught Programmes

The breadth and purpose of our MSc courses reflect the various reasons graduates choose to pursue further study:

  • extend subject knowledge
  • specialise in an academic field
  • gain a competitive edge in the jobs market
  • conversion from one discipline to another

Whatever the motivation, our students usually study full time over 12 months. We also offer many flexible and part-time study options.

Our MSc programmes are often integrated with undergraduate Masters, such as MEng and MChem. This augments both cohorts' student experience and learning environment.

We also have MSc courses running from our Newcastle Research & Innovation Institute (NewRIIS), based at Newcastle University in Singapore.
