I have been at Newcastle University since 1998 when I started my PhD Thesis on ‘Mechanical properties of Fullerene-like CNx’ in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Following my PhD I joined the university’s Nanotechnology Department (INEX), where I worked for 12 years. I started as an analytical scientist using techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Raman Spectroscopy for sample characterization and progressed to process development engineer where I specialized on nanoscale patterning on silicon wafers using e-beam lithography. In November 2014 I moved to the Scanning Electron Microscopy and Analysis Unit (formerly known as ACMA) where I work as a SEM officer.
