Abby French

Job Title

Student Engagement Facilitator

Abby joined the SAgE faculty in October 2019 and helps develop and implement initiatives to support the University's Education Strategy for improving the experience of students.  She has a particular focus on action plans related to the University's Employability and Enterprise Strategy.   She works particularly with the Schools of Engineering (SENG) and Natural & Environmental Sciences (SNES)

Abby is passionate about enabling students to have as wide and varied engagement with industry and professional bodies as possible, equipping them to be the sought-after science, engineering and agriculture graduates of the future.

Abby has both industry and academic experience having been an undergrad, postgrad, research and more recently a mature student (PGCE secondary Chemistry).  An industrially sponsored research project was the starting point for her first career or twenty years as a geoscientist in the international energy sector.  In this she worked closely with other scientists, various engineering disciplines, economists and legal teams and spent a lot of time in Africa and the Middle East and indeed further afield.

She is delighted to finally be back in her native North East.
