How much can I claim? 

For the academic year 2023/24, school & college staff are able to claim up to £250 for the cost of state school/college group travel.

Where possible, we don’t want the cost of travel to be a limiting factor in attending our on-campus events. If you’re concerned that the £250 limit will prevent your school group from accessing campus, please get in touch to discuss this further.

What can the Visit Bursary be used for?

The Visit Bursary can be used to support travel costs relating to on-campus outreach events which are booked by teachers/advisors for their school groups. Eligible events may include:

• University Open Days
• On-campus outreach days (for example, one-day events booked via our outreach team, library services or STEM outreach team)

Please note:

• This funding is available only to school groups. It is not available on an individual basis.
• Bursaries can be requested by school staff only and this allowance can only be used towards transport or supply cover costs incurred by student groups visiting the Newcastle University campus.
• The funding is available to state schools/colleges only.
• Visit Bursary applications will be considered on an individual basis, taking into account the number of visits and the cumulative amount claimed per school/college during this academic year.
• Available funding may vary from 2024/25 onwards.

How to apply

Complete the following steps to claim the Visit Bursary:

1. Your visit to Newcastle University is confirmed by a member of staff at the University.
2. Schools can then complete the form below – preferably before you attend your visit.
3. Your request will then be picked up and confirmed by one of the team, who will send further details, including a claim form, by email.
4. When you visit the University, please bring your claim form with you and ask the member of University staff running the event/leading the visit to sign it.
5. In order for us to process your claim as quickly and as efficiently as possible, we request that you email us a copy of your signed claim form to the Visit Bursary email account within two weeks of your visit.
6. This will then be picked up by one of our team who will arrange for the payment to be made. NB. The Visit Bursary reimburses your travel/cover costs; we do not pay them for you. 

All Visit Bursary Requests for visits between September 2023 and July 2024 must be submitted by 21st July 2024. Any requests after this time will not be accepted or processed.
