Medicine MB BS Honours – Graduated 2008
What have you been up to since graduating?
Once I graduated I started working as a Junior Doctor and gained experience in a number of hospitals throughout the North East and Cumbria.
I currently work as a Doctor specialising in Elderly Care. I chose Geriatric Medicine as it is a challenging, varied and expanding speciality where no two days are the same.
I also enjoy teaching and have gained a qualification in Clinical Education.
Did the PARTNERS Programme influence your career choices?
Yes, it helped to confirm that the career path I had chosen was right for me.
How did the PARTNERS Programme prepare you for employment?
The life skills I have gained from the Summer Schools has been invaluable, particularly with team working, leadership and confidence in general.
What were the benefits of the PARTNERS Programme?
It has literally changed my life! Without PARTNERS I probably wouldn’t have been able to study Medicine! I didn't quite get the grades I wanted however, the PARTNERS Programme provided me with a lower offer into Newcastle University’s Medical School.
What support did you receive from the PARTNERS Team during the Assessed Summer School and throughout your time at University?
The PARTNERS team helped me prepare for life as a student. They put me in touch with other students on the course and gave a helping hand whenever I needed some advice.
Whilst at University I thoroughly enjoyed helping the PARTNERS team by working as a Student Ambassador at shadowing events and Summer Schools. This gave me the opportunity to help others in the way that the PARTNERS Team had helped me when I was considering University.
If you could give advice or tips to a new PARTNERS student, what would it be?
Seize the opportunity! PARTNERS for me has been truly life changing. Apply to be a Student Rep on the Summer Schools - I've never had so much fun and the satisfaction to be helping others is very rewarding.
