A-level Spectroscopy Visits

Return to Teachers Toolkit Search

Held year-round on demand (usually Wednesday afternoons, 1.45 - 4.30pm, in university term time)

Why not consider combining a half-day Laboratory Session with a half-day Spectroscopy Visit to make a full day event?

Schools and colleges frequently bring their year 12 or 13 classes for our Spectroscopy Workshops, designed to tie-in with current A-level specifications.

The day begins with an introductory presentation on the general phenomena of Spectroscopy and Spectrometry.

This is followed by a tour of our facilities and a chance to meet our experts.

After the tour of the building, we have a break for snacks in the Faraday Room followed by a 30 minute problem solving class where the students can use their analytical skills to assign spectra and identify unknown compounds.

Approximate timings for a visit:

  • 1.45 - 2.45; Spectroscopy lecture in LT3
  • 2.45 - 3.45; Tour of the Spectroscopic facilities
  • 3.45 - 4.00; Refreshment break in the Faraday Room
  • 4.00 - 4.30; Problem-solving workshop in LT3
