NewRIIS announces new professional development courses

Newcastle Research & Innovation Institute (NewRIIS) has announced details of its next CPD programmes. The upcoming courses have been designed to meet the needs of industry and individuals from a range of different sectors.

Upcoming courses at NewRIIS, the University’s new cutting-edge facility in Jurong East:

Seeing more in your data

We are delighted to welcome Professor Nick Holliman, Professor of Visualization, back to Singapore to deliver his Visualization Tools and Techniques workshop on both Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 September. These newly-announced sessions are in response to demand when they were first delivered in July.

The ability to visualize data offers countless opportunities to communicate, investigate and understand data for research and business purposes. Participants attending this one-day course will be able to understand better their own data and benefit from an interactive introduction to Microsoft Power BI to create and explore their own visualizations.

Uncovering the health impacts of air pollution

On Wednesday 8 November, NewRIIS is delighted to welcome Dr Anil Namdeo, Director of Transport Operations Research Group from the School of Engineering to deliver a CPD programme in Air Pollution and Health.

More than seven million early deaths worldwide are caused each year by air pollution, with evidence linking it to heart attacks and strokes. This short course will introduce the scale and trend of air pollution problems, its sources and how air pollution affects the health of us all. Participants will benefit from first-hand experience of using portable air pollution monitors and in analysing and presenting air quality data.

Analysis studies of electrical power systems

On Tuesday 21 November, Dr Thillainathan Logenthiran, Assistant Professor in Electrical Power Engineering will deliver a one-day course,  , for technical and non-technical professionals working in or with the electrical power industry.

Electrical power engineering has – and continues to play – an important role in development and economic growth. For industry, the optimal planning, operation and control of such large systems is becoming increasingly more complex and multifaceted and they need to be resilient to failures. With a focus on modern power system operations, this course will develop participants’ technical knowledge of the electrical power industry, as well as their understanding of electric power systems and their operation.

Professor Ian Postlethwaite said: "I am delighted with the range and quality of CPD courses we are offering and look forward to announcing more new events in the near future."

Registration for these upcoming CPDs are open now. Places are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, with special rates for group bookings. Participants are provided with course materials, refreshments and lunch.
