Confucius Institute Chinese Director attended the National Day Reception in Manchester

At the invitation of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Wei Pan, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University, attended the National Day Reception celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the P. R. C in Manchester on September 18th.

The Reception was opened by Consul General Zheng Xiyuan and addressed by the following distinguished guests including Mr. Warren Smith, Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Cllr. Abid Latif Chohan, Lord Mayor of Manchester, and Lisa Yam, Chairman of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Manchester. The reception was attended well by hundreds of invited guests from all walks of life in Greater Manchester and other regions as well.

Dr. Pan also had a lovely meeting with Linda Lin, an alumnae of Xiamen University, who has recently been appointed as the Head of the Bank of China (UK) in Manchester. Extensive views were exchanged over the meeting with regard to the potential collaboration between Bank of China and the CI at Newcastle University.
