Exploring Patterns in Translating Sexually Explicit Language in Literary Texts from English into Chinese

I am currently researching on the translation of sex in popular fictions from English into Chinese. In this project, I examine patterns and strategies in translating sexually explicit language from English into Chinese, using a number of texts across various genres. I will also use interviews and paratexts to situate the translations in the socio-political contexts in China at a macro level, to account for why certain patterns are found. This study hopes to uncover how cultural dynamics and ideological struggles play a part in translating sexually explicit language.

My research interests include sexual language and translation, ideology and manipulation, and literary translation.
