Our focus
We exist for all social scientists working across the three Newcastle University faculties. We seek to increase the visibility of social science research both within and beyond the University.
We're interested in large scale inter-disciplinary projects as well as the lone researcher – and everything between. We work with individuals and clusters of researchers. We support social scientists at all stages of their career.
We support staff to collaborate internally and develop partnerships with organisations outside the University.
We also work with the Institute for Creative Arts Practice and the Humanities Research Institute.
How we work
We support social science at Newcastle University through many activities:
- funding calls
- monthly TALKSocSci lunchtime research sessions around particular themes or research questions
- strategic workshops and events around particular themes
- seed-corn funding for particular initiatives, for example, Methodologies@Newcastle
- competitions, for example, our Institute Postgraduate Video Competition
- our regular newsletter
- supporting the next generation of researchers via the Challenge Labs scheme alongside the Institute for Creative Arts Practice and the Humanities Research Institute
If you would like our support, contact the Institute Director Liz Todd or Institute Officer Alex Robson.
