The Vertical Border

The Vertical Border – A Documentary Screening

The Vertical Border is documentary telling the story of forced migration from central America northwards, towards the US-Mexico border. Fleeing economic precarity, climate disaster, as well as state and criminal violence – most are in search of a liveable life beyond what they have at home. Sonja Wolf, the film’s director, states “The Vertical border aims to change the conversation about forced migration and migration deterrence”. Inviting you to see the world through the eyes of the displaced, Wolf implores you discuss what you see with the people around you.

This is an opportunity for university staff and students, as well as North East-based charities and initiatives to come together over a common goal of making the university and Newcastle more welcoming to asylum seekers and refugees. SolidariTee will also be present, raising money to provide support to asylum seekers through selling T-shirts.

This event is in collaboration with People and Planet and is being supported by the Institute for Social Science.
