Get more from your sports centre membership
As a sports centre member*, you can enjoy a range of personalised services. These help you reach your health and fitness goals.
They include:
- subsidised sports massage
- free physio assessments
- personalised fitness programmes
- one-to-one training
You can also take part in the DFDS Fitness Challenge,with a chance to win a city break to Amsterdam.
* Sports massage is also open to non-centre members, who pay full price.
The sports massage clinic is at the University sports centre. It is open to all students and staff.*
Lunchtime sessions
- Mondays 13.00-14.30
- Thursdays 13.30-14.30
Therapists are George McCain, Cleo Parkin and Sally Devine.
Sessions are 30 minutes long. They run throughout the year. One hour sessions are available on request.

You must pay for all sessions at the time of booking. We accept cash and card payments.
We can't give refunds once a you've made a booking. We require 24 hours notice to transfer a booking.
For your personal comfort, bring your own large towel and wear light, loose-fitting clothes.
You must arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your appointment.
Avoid having a heavy meal or alcohol for 4 to 5 hours before your treatment.
The Physio drop-in clinic is available Tuesdays, 14:00-15:00, during term time only.
Triage 10-minute slots are free of charge. We’ll assess your injury to work out the best course of treatment.

The osteo clinic is available on Fridays, from 10.00-11.00.
It runs every two weeks from 11 October 2019, during term time only.

The service is free.
Fitness Challenges run throughout the year in our fitness suite. They are open to all users of the facility.
The main prize for each challenge is a two-night city break to Amsterdam, courtesy of DFDS Seaways.
There are also a number of runners-up prizes. These include fitness assessments, sports massage sessions and fitness classes.
Our next challenge will be the Dri-Athlon Challenge, which starts on Monday 6 January 2020
- The challenge ends on Sunday 15 March 2020.
- Complete all 3 sections of our Dri-Athlon in one go, or over several visits.
- Enter your details on the wall chart in the Gym.
- Complete each section as indicated on the chart – Row, Bike, Run.
- Simply tick off the distance travelled once completed.
- You have 10 weeks to complete the challenge.
- Everyone who completes the challenge enters into a prize draw on 18th March 2020.
- You can complete the challenge as many times as you like.
- The more times you complete the challenge, the more entries you have into the draw.
- The first drawn prize winner will win a trip for two to Amsterdam courtesy of DFDS Seaways.

Wan has specialised in innovative massage techniques with excellent therapeutic results for the past 10 years. He has a vast experience in a wide variety of massage techniques. He devotes a lot of his time to providing free drop-in massage clinics to many University departments.
Since retiring from his research post, Wan’s passion is to provide quick and effective pain relief. He can help with many everyday symptoms during his unique 5-minute massage sessions.
He has resolved a number of irregular clinical symptoms such as:
- migraine
- gastric reflux
- menstrual cycle problem
- typical back pain
Initially, Wan’s approach may seem a little quirky. His sessions can be relaxing or painful, but fantastic results are often achieved within 3-4 sessions.
If you can spare the time, be prepared to be pleasantly surprised.
