Register with the Police

Register with the Police

If you need a visa to come to the UK, you may also need to register with the local police upon arrival.

You should check your visa vignette inside your passport or the decision letter for your visa application to find out if you need to register with the police.

If you need to register with the police, you should follow the steps on the Northumbria Police website to complete your registration.

You should only contact Northumbria Police once you have been able to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card. You should only do so once you have completed any required Covid-19 quarantine.

If you have already registered with the police, you should make sure that you keep your police registration certificate up-to-date at all times.

Updates on the Overseas Visitors Registration Office (OVRO)

The Overseas Visitors Registration Office (OVRO) has re-opened on the 8th March 2021. If you have contacted OVRO when they were closed, they will now contact you with details for an appointment.

If you have applied for your visa in the UK, when you attend the police registration appointment, you should bring with you the email you received from the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) when the visa application was successful.
