Applying for your Tier 4 visa with the Visa Support Team

The Visa Support Team can assist you with making your Tier 4 application in the UK, or Doctorate Extension Scheme application, if you meet current requirements. You should take the following steps:

  1. At least 8 weeks before you need to make your Tier 4 application, request a copy of our guide to 'Making a Tier 4 application in the UK'. Please follow the instructions in the guide carefully. IMPORTANT: ‘Making a Tier 4 application in the UK’ is updated regularly to reflect any amendments to the UKVI Tier 4 Policy Guidance or changes to UKVI visa application procedures. Always read ‘Making a Tier 4 application in the UK’ alongside the current Tier 4 Policy Guidance document. You will also be provided with a guide to the Tier 4 application form to assist you with your application.
  2. If your programme requires clearance under the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS), please request fresh ATAS clearance at least 6 weeks before you request a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). A new ATAS certificate will be required before your CAS can be issued.
  3. Ensure that you have your new CAS.
    • Students beginning a new programme should ensure that they have met all of the conditions of the programme in order for Admissions to issue the CAS.
    • Students who are currently registered on a programme at Newcastle University, must submit a CAS request with the relevant supporting documents. The request for a CAS must be submitted at least 8 weeks before it is required. Supporting documents should be submitted no later than 4 weeks before the date that the CAS is required.
  4. Please indicate whether you will be including dependants in your application, so that the necessary guidance can be provided.
  5. Make an appointment with the Visa Support Team following the instructions detailed in the guide to ‘Making a Tier 4 application in the UK’.

Making a Tier 4 application outside of the UK

In some circumstances, due to Tier 4 rules, you may need to make a Tier 4 application in your home country. The Visa Support Team also provide a ‘Guide to making a Tier 4 application outside the UK’ which can be requested by completing this request form. As information in the guide is subject to change at short notice, always read ‘Guide to making a Tier 4 application outside UK’ alongside the current Tier 4 Policy Guidance document.

University policy governing the immigration sponsorship, and registration, of non-EEA students

As a Tier 4 Sponsor, Newcastle University is required to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to ensure immigration compliance across the student community. As such, the University has developed its own internal policy relating to circumstances under which Tier 4 sponsorship may be offered and withdrawn, as well as documentary requirements relating to the registration process at the University.

It is important to note that whilst the University will endeavour to support prospective and registered students with their immigration requirements for academic purposes, Tier 4 sponsorship is not guaranteed in all circumstances. For further information, you should familiarise yourself with the University's policy on Student Immigration Compliance and contact the Visa Support Team if you currently have any doubts about your circumstances.
