Police Registration

Your visa may have a requirement for you to register with the local police. Only nationals of certain countries have to register with the police (Overseas Registration Office) and usually only when they have visas for more than 6 months.

This requirement may be stated on your visa or on the decision letter you received to confirm that your visa has been granted.

If you are required to register with the police, you must:

  • Begin the process as soon as possible (normally within 7 days) by reading the information and completing the registration form;
  • Attend your appointment to register with the police, as required; and
  • Keep your police registration certificate updated with any changes to personal circumstances throughout your stay. You certificate will need to be up-to-date if you need to apply for a new visa in the UK.

When you leave the UK

If you leave the UK for a period of one month or more, you should hand back your police registration certificate to the Overseas Registration Office in Newcastle. You can collect it again from there if you return to the UK.
