Where to go to loan toys and equipment

There are various children’s loan equipment companies available throughout the UK. However, due to the nature of being able to transport the items, focus has been placed on those available in the North East.

  • Newcastle Toy and Leisure Library
Newcastle Toy and Leisure Library supports children with disabilities and is unique in Newcastle as it also supports the whole family. The specialist toy and equipment loan service enables children with disabilities to access early years settings, out of school clubs, schools, play schemes, respite, play and leisure provision.

By providing an outreach toy loan and play service, they provide support to parents and families of children. It is especially effective to those who have been newly-diagnosed with special needs, to help them to come to terms with the diagnosis and to encourage them to develop their potential. Professional workers can also lend the toys and equipment so they can make sure they get them to those who need them the most. If you would like more information, please phone Christine Graham on 0191 238 6303.

  • NAPI - Newcastle Action for Parent and Toddler Groups Initiative
The Book a Toy Loan Service is a joint project run by Newcastle Toy Library Forum, Newcastle City Libraries and Sure Start Children's Centres. The scheme operates in Fenham, Gosforth, Walker, Newbiggin Hall and Outer West libraries with outreach catalogues at East End and Newburn libraries.

An adult requires an 18+ library ticket to access the toys and can borrow up to 4 toys for four weeks at a time free of charge. A catalogue with photographs of the toys suitable for under 8's is available in each library. Toys already out on loan can be reserved. Please contact City Library for more details on 0191 277 4100.
