Student Expeditions

Do you want to organise an expedition next spring or summer?

Expeditions take many forms, but Newcastle University is particularly keen to encourage those organised by students to carry out research at destinations outside the UK.

We have a proven record of this kind of activity stretching back over 50 years and are currently recognised by the Royal Geographical Society as one of the leading UK universities for student expeditioning.

Organising an expedition is extremely demanding, especially if you have little previous experience. One way of acquiring such experience is to join an organised expedition. The University Expeditions Committee is able to offer advice and, in some cases, financial assistance to help support what it sees as safe and worthwhile expeditions. The following sections offer an introduction for students interested in participating in an expedition of their own making.

Note: the deadline for applications for University Expeditions Committee funding is the last Friday in January
