Roles and Responsibilities

Meningitis Now Accreditation 2019/2021If there is a risk of infection from meningococcal disease, the Health Protection Agency and the University will work closely together as outlined below:

The Health Protection Agency is responsible for identifying and contacting those at risk and who may need medication. They, and not the University, will know which people fall into this category and arrange treatment if and where necessary.

If you are in any doubt, please contact the HPA on 0844 225 3550. They will be able to advise you if you need treatment.

The University is responsible for ensuring information is provided and will circulate letters and information from the Health Protection Agency to students in the hall of residence, and if appropriate to the academic department in which the affected student is living and studying.

Updated information will be posted on the Student Wellbeing website. Posters and leaflets about meningococcal disease (meningitis) are also circulated regularly around the University, including at registration. These include the telephone numbers of support agencies and other information lines.
