Study Abroad

Spend a year studying abroad and gain skills and experience sought after by employers.

Visit the Student Enquiries knowledge base for student information on COVID 19 and IT systems issues.

How we're keeping you safe in COVID-19

We've chosen to cancel international work and study placements due to start in semester 1, to ensure your safety.

If you're a student with a mandatory year abroad, we're working on alternative options so you can gain the equivalent experience.

If travel restrictions are eased, and partner institutions are able to offer placements safely, we're hoping you may be able to go abroad in semester 2.

For more information about changes to study abroad, visit our FAQ page, or email studyabroad@ncl.ac.uk.

Take up the opportunities offered by a truly international university and spend some time studying abroad. Many degrees include either an optional or compulsory period of study abroad.

These opportunities can last from a single semester to a full year, and range from Europe to the Americas, to Asia and Australasia.

Benefits of studying abroad include:

  • experiencing different cultures
  • growing in confidence
  • making friendships that last a lifetime
  • building your CV
  • learning or improving a second language
  • developing skills not taught in a lecture theatre
  • gaining new perspectives on an academic subject
