What the University is Doing

As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we are dedicated to preserving and enhancing biodiversity. As part of our biodiversity strategy we have developed both a Biodiversity Policy (March 2012) (PDF: 210KB) and action plan for the University's UK campus.

A Biodiversity Working Group composed of experts and advisors from various departments within the University has also been established to oversee the implementation of the biodiversity strategy and identify project and engagement opportunities.

The University has a target of implementing two biodiversity projects per year. Example of previous projects include installation of bat houses at the Richardson Road development site in April 2016, various Greening the Campus initiatives which involved plating over 15,000 new plants and creation of wildflower meadows at our Sports Grounds. Lookig ahead we plan to introduce biodiversity projects on the Science Central site, with large amounts of planting and installation off beehives on a green roof at one of the new University buildings.
