1. To provide an introduction to general management theory and practice.
2. To understand the development of theory in organisational behaviour and its relation to management in organisations.
3. To introduce transferable skills used by practising managers to enhance their job performance and career prospects.
4. To develop knowledge and behaviours which are readily transferable into the management milieu and which will enhance the prospects of students in identifying and obtaining the sorts of employment which they feel will be most rewarding following their course of study.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
1. Lectures are used to present the students with the knowledge base upon which they can develop their understanding of the subject area.
2. On-line learning is used to help develop and test understanding of the knowledge base.
and an understanding of the practical implications of this knowledge base in specific situations.
3. Online webinars will be used as part of this course design. The rational for their selection is that they enable both large and small group teaching and synchronous interaction between staff and students and peers. In large group sessions staff can provide and deliver material to students through an interactive platform, with students about to respond using a range of tools (text chat, voting systems, voice channels etc.)
4. In smaller group sessions, students are allocated into groups of a specified number from the original large group session and are provided with their own virtual collaboration space. They can interact using a similar range of tools, voice, text, and a shared whiteboard to undertake and complete seminar activities. Staff can access these rooms and drop in on the conversations in a similar manner to classroom practices of group circulation.
5. On-line learning is used to help develop self-evaluation and reflective learning
6. Seminars are used to support the on-line activities and help develop and practice the essential management skills.
