The course will provide students with a knowledge of natural products obtained from animals and plants, including marine organisms, with the emphasis on the isolation, structure determination, biosynthetic origin, synthesis, mode of action and medicinal properties of substances.

1-2 Classes of natural products; isolation of natural products
3-4 Structure determination; synthesis of selected natural products
5-7 Fatty acids; aromatic natural products
8-10 Terpenes; steroids; prostaglandins
13 Pharmacology of receptors
14 Marine natural products
plus 6 workshops on selected lecture content and 4 exam-related sessions.
