Aims

This module is designed to provide understanding of fundamental control and modelling concepts and their application in bioprocessing systems. These issues will be complemented by the introduction of engineering appreciation of bioprocesses.

Outline Of Syllabus

Cell growth and models of growth kinetics. Types of bioreactors. Mass and heat transfer in bioreactors. Bioreactor design and scale-up. Instrumentation and control of bioreactors. Basic concepts of dynamics and control, P/PI/PID controller characteristics, tuning of controllers

The lectures will introduce basic concepts of control, biochemical engineering, bioreactor design and operation of a bioprocessing plant.

Tutorials and project will provide hands-on experience and practice in the above areas.
